Long Time, No Blog

I am definitely horrible at keeping up with this thing! A lot has happened, most of which I will not go into detail, because it simply doesn't matter. At least not to me.

For starters, stationed at Fort Riley, KS...home of the Big Red One. We went to NTC (National Training Center) where is on Fort Irwin, CA. The month went by slow and was too ready to come home. While I was there, a doctor told me that come cysts on my kidneys were more than likely causing the pain and nausea I have been experiencing since the appendectomy.

I knew my unit was deploying and was doing everything I could to go with them. My 1SG told me that he wanted me to stay back on Rear D (rear detachment: those who are deploying) so that I could work my medical issues out. I was pretty upset, especially since I wasted 33 days of my time that I will never get back (and I am sure it will not be the last time).

Since returning from NTC, we have had multiple people (for different reasons) taken off the deploying list and put on Rear D. Luckily, I kept checking with my squad leader and 1SG, and they removed my name off the Rear D list and put it on the deploying list. Not many people would understand, but I was beyond happy that I would be going overseas with my battles. On the other hand, wasn't too thrilled to come to the conclusion that I would also be spending my 21st birthday in the desert.

Long story short, they gave me 2 weeks notice of my name being on the deploying roster. So, I have been packing like crazy and trying to get everything done that I have so hastily put off (because I thought I was not going). Learned my lesson, yet again, not to procrastinate. So, I am leaving in about a week and a half, to spend 9 months (give or take) in the Paktika Province of Eastern Afghanistan. I will try my best to write before I leave, and also keep up while I am over there.
